Chris Parker

Executive Director

Chris Parker grew up in the Santa Ynez Valley and attended the local high school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science at CalPoly in San Luis Obispo. Chris attended the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, where he completed an internship for his Dietetic Registration License, and then returned to the West Coast to obtain both a California Board of Nursing Home License and a California Residential Care Facility for the Elderly Administrator License.

Chris has been Executive Director for the Solvang Lutheran Home, Inc. since 2011. Before Atterdag Village, Chris served as Vise-President of Extended Care Services, where he spent 16 years developing a multi-faceted Senior Care Operation, including a 99-bed skilled nursing facility, a 54-unit assisted living facility, a 44-bed assisted living Alzheimer’s center with adult day care, a community-based home health and hospice program, a medical equipment company, and the addition of a 46-bed skilled nursing rehabilitation center.

Caring for seniors is his passion, and he feels privileged to work with such an incredible group of people here at Atterdag Village. Chris has assisted in various senior center governing boards, including The YMCA Board, and is a member of the Solvang Rotary Club.

Jamie Amburgey

Clinical Director

Jaime Amburgey, LVN, has been part of the Atterdag family since May 2018, holding various roles across multiple departments.

She started in skilled nursing as a floor nurse and Clinical Coordinator, then was promoted in 2019 to Admission Coordinator, Quality Assurance, and became certified in Infection Control. In August 2020, she was promoted again to Assisted and Independent Living Director and Residential Clinical Director for the entire campus. In 2022, Jaime completed a course and became a certified RCFE Administrator.

During the day, Jaime can be found working to ensure our residents’ safety, and that residents’ care plans are up-to-date, medications are in order, staff are educated with the latest information, and everyone’s needs are being met.

Jaime is very enthusiastic and passionate about what she does every day, serving our generation of seniors and supporting their families.

Jaime loves to spend time with her husband and their two daughters when she is not working. She also enjoys going to football games and concerts.

Karen Brown

Atterdag at Home Director

Karen Brown was born in Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Michigan. She moved to the central coast in 1986 and opened a restaurant in Solvang. In 1993, she purchased a gift shop, Bella of Solvang, and enjoyed all aspects of retail. Reluctantly, Karen closed her beloved Bella of Solvang in 2006 due to unforeseen life changes beyond her control.

In 2009, Karen was given an opportunity to manage a new business enterprise benefitting seniors who had exhausted their financial resources at the Atterdag Village of Solvang Care Center. The store was in the Atterdag Square and named the Atterdag Village Serendipity Shoppe. Karen arranged the store to look like a vintage boutique featuring gently used treasures with some newly purchased items during the holiday seasons. The store was successful and in business until 2017, when the Board of Directors determined that the overhead and increasing rent needed to prove profitable.

Upon closing the Serendipity Shoppe, Karen became the Director of Atterdag at Home, a non-profit serving homebound seniors Meals on Wheels and providing other services to seniors in their homes. This program continues to grow and expand the services offered, like providing local transportation to doctor’s appointments, referrals, check-in phone calls, and many other benefits. During Covid 19, our number of seniors needing meals grew dramatically. Our volunteers delivered meals and provided a lifeline to our homebound and low-income seniors.

Karen looks forward to assisting many seniors in the Santa Ynez Valley with Atterdag Village of Solvang’s “People Who Care Scholarships,” benefiting low-income seniors by providing essential services to allow “aging in place.”

Julie Driscoll

Social Services Director

Born and raised in Lompoc, Julie Driscoll knew and felt how special being part of a tight-knit community was. That small-town feeling of everyone knowing everyone else and always looking out for your neighbor engrained a love for supporting the same lifestyle within Atterdag Village. Julie’s first real job out of college was working at Atterdag Village of Solvang, a senior community. She knew she had learned more about life from that first year than any book or class could have taught her, and she feels it is truly an honor and privilege to serve the Atterdag Village residents.

Outside of work, Julie spends time with her family. She is blessed with a large family that loves playing sports, listening to music, dancing, singing, eating, cooking, and any excuse to gather and enjoy being with one another.

Julie completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton. After graduation, she started a master’s program at Cal Lutheran University for High School counseling and quickly realized that would not be the path for her. At that point, she entered the workforce while trying to find her life-long passion, which led her to apply as the Activities Director at the Solvang Lutheran Home, also known as Atterdag Village of Solvang. After being hired, Julie felt how unique Atterdag Village and the people were. Throughout her years at Atterdag Village, she experienced many changes: name, job, facility, and, most recently, COVID changes. What has not changed is the feeling of family, community, and connectedness she has always loved and experienced while working at Atterdag Village.

While working at Atterdag Village, Julie received her Residential Care for the Elderly Administrator License from the State of California and has worked in many capacities all around campus. She did find out what her life-long passion would be here at Atterdag Village, and it is to help seniors and their families navigate the complex world of aging.

Gary Hall

Director of Operations

Gary Hall has over 35 years of experience working in Acute Care Hospital Administration, including hospital systems in the Bay Area, Northern Sacramento Valley, and the Pacific Northwest. As a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Gary has obtained his fellow credentials and board certification in healthcare management. He also holds a current California State OSHPD Construction Inspection License. Gary manages the maintenance, construction, housekeeping, and transportation departments at Atterdag Village of Solvang.

Lori Kelley

Memory Care Director

Lori Kelley has worked throughout her career with Dementia and Alzheimer’s residents. She feels that home represents a place where one can feel loved, at ease, comfortable, and secure. At Atterdag Village of Solvang, she has created a nurturing home environment where a resident with memory loss can live an independent life in a safe and secure setting.

Lori manages a professional staff that regards the residents as members of their Atterdag family, creating a loving environment and lifestyle where they not only live well but also with dignity and self-esteem.

Nancy Purdom

Sales and Marketing Director

Nancy is a native of Clark County, Washington, and grew up on a 120-acre farm. She was proud of her entrepreneurial parents and learned about business at a young age. While a licensed realtor in Santa Monica, Nancy attended UCLA, majoring in Financial Planning. In 1996, she took a long hiatus to conceive of and operate Promowerks, a nationwide marketing company. Promowerks provided consumer education and promotional vehicle design and development in the United States, with Red Bull Energy Drink as the primary client. Nancy, the president and owner of Promowerks, had over 1500 employees in 48 states. Her team created customized promotional vehicle designs and managed the build of over 200 vehicles, including the well-known “Refrigeracer.” In 2001, Promowerks’ was billing over $1,000,000 a month. The following year, Nancy and her husband moved back to Clark County, WA, to start and raise their family on 40 acres in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge.

With her enduring entrepreneurial spirit Nancy obtained a WA real estate license, teamed up with her husband, and marketed his original line of footwear, “Mozo,” for the culinary industry. She founded Homeshield Property Management, which worked directly with bank-owned properties during the housing crash of 2008. She joined the Board of Directors for the Washougal’s Schools Foundation, managing event planning, fundraising, and website development.

In 2008, Nancy suffered a family tragedy and decided to slow down, focus on family, and raise her two young children.

Nancy and her family moved to the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley in 2015. With a slower pace of life and beautiful surroundings, Nancy supported the Santa Ynez Valley Swim Club with event planning and parent coordination. In 2018, Nancy joined the marketing team at Atterdag Village of Solvang. As the Sales and Marketing Director, she enjoys all aspects of her job, including the wonderful residents of the senior community.
